Geological Setting of Madneuli Copper-Gold Deposit and Conditions of it’s Origin

Annotation Volcanogenic massive sulphide (VMS) deposits represent widely spread type of the base metal ore deposits on the Earth and they have close relationship with volcanism. During last two decades, study of volcanic, volcanogenic-sedimentary, and sedimentary host rocks of such deposits based on physical volcanology and sedimentology, which implies detailed facial analysis of such suits, has become especially actual and is new in Georgia. Research of geological setting of Madneuli copper-gold deposit and conditions of its origin, based on mentioned method is given in this master’s thesis. This research includes review of existing geological scientific literature and analyses of my personal data, which I obtained at Madneuli open-pit during my geological field-trip in 2012. The first topic of the contribution contains general brief information about the history of geological study of the Bolnisi ore district, including characteristics of geological structure and development history of the study area, short descriptions of ore deposits and manifestations of the district. As a result of analysis of my personal data, important volcanic, sedimentary and biogenic-sedimentary structures (trace fossils) were identified. Vesiculated tuff facies was determined on the Madneuli open-pit for the first time. I made thin-section descriptions of the main host rock types in polarizing microscope. By means of X-ray analysis was identified mineral melanterite (FeSO4 * 7H2O) in the northwest flank of the open-pit for the first time. The results of these studies are discussed in the second topic.
