Unusual chloration of the indole ring

There was discovered unusual chloration reaction of the indole ring in the proccess of synthesis of 2,7-diethoxycarbonyl-1H,8H-pyrolo[2,3-g]indoles from 7-amino-2-ethoxy-carbonylindole. The aim of our work is to study this reaction on the example of other amino-derivatives of 2-ethoxycarbonylindoles, and also to discover presumable mechanism and optimal conditions.
